The Online Community of Saint Joseph’s

What is CCB?

The Online Community of Sain Joseph’s is what is known as a Church Management System (ChMS). These software applications were originally designed to assist the administrative staff in running the parish. Their main purpose was to have a central repository of information about members of the church – contact info, family information, sacraments, donation history, etc. In the beginning, they ran locally on computers in the office, but along with most software, migrated to the cloud to allow anytime/anywhere access, including by the members.

The original systems were designed to “equip” the administrative staff for service. The ChMS we have chosen was the first to take a different approach – equip you the parishioner in what they call an Ephesians 4 approach:

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12–13)Ephesians 4:12–13

That is the path we have chosen – to equip our members for service and individual faith formation. We’re investing in you the parishioner, equipping you with the tools you need to lead and empowering you to engage in ministry and faith formation.  These new tools will also equip our leaders and administrative staff to do things not currently possible.  It will transform us as a parish.

What does it do?

The Online Community of Saint Joseph’s combines tools that have been available for many years into a seamless, integrated, secure environment designed specifically for a church. You’ll recognize elements of Social Media, Google Groups, Email, and Calendars, and more. It will greatly facilitate communication and engagement.  You can view a short summary video below

Overview of CCB

One of the foundational elements of the new Online Community is to protect and honor the privacy of our members in ways that are not possible on public social media and other platforms many of you are familiar with.  Other than our public calendar and the ministries and groups we offer, nothing within the Online Community can be viewed or accessed unless you are a registered member.

Inside the Online Community, your individual and family default settings keep your information private from other parishioners. Only authorized Saint Joseph’s staff can view it. Your contact information is only shared with other parishioners if you chose to do so.

This is a different approach than many social media platforms where information is public unless you specifically chose to make it private.  We make your information (and family information) private unless you specifically chose to share it with others.

Setting Privacy & Communication Preferences

At the core is the ability you have to update your profile with everything from contact information to interests and talents and whatever else we add a “box” for. You can add a photo so others can put a name to a face they often at Mass, and you can set your own permissions about who can view what. Your personal information is your own to keep private, to share only with friends, or to share certain pieces publicly.

Groups can be anything from a service ministry, to a few people who want to meet for breakfast on Thursday mornings in fellowship united by a common interest, to surfers that meet at Privates after 7 am Mass. We are a community and groups are the way we engage as one at a deeper level. In addition to facilitating the management and participation in groups, the goal is to make it easier for you to initiate and start a group of your own.

One of the key goals of CCB is to help make Saint Joseph’s a stronger community. The “Needs” function facilitates that in ways not possible before.  Once you create or join your group, this function allows you to coordinate volunteers for all sorts of one-time or recurring functions.  Does someone need meals arranged after surgery or a new baby?  Trying to organize a community project?  The Needs function makes that all possible.

The communication channels are numerous. Parishioner to Parishioner. Leadership/Staff to Parishioner and vice versa. By 1-to-1 or group email, texts, or even voicemails with an inspirational thought from Fr Wayne. All is under your control to chose what method and what content you wish to receive. In addition to accessing the online community with your computer, there is a mobile application as well.

You can access a public calendar of events, just your group calendar (for groups you’re a part of), or your schedule for serving. You can even get text reminders. You can “subscribe” to a calendar, so it appears on your phone or computer along with your personal appointments.

One of the most powerful features of CCB is it’s ability to manage the volunteer opportunities in our many ministries.  All of your assignments for service in the ministries you participate in are in one spot.  All of those assignments and any Group meetings are available on your personal calendar, and that calendar can be visible on your phone.  When you provide your Mobile phone number and Carrier, you can receive convenient text message to remind you of upcoming assignments.

Equally important is how CCB makes it easy for ministry leaders to prepare schedules.  By using your preference and block out dates, it becomes a fairly simple process for them.  The current manual system is VERY cumbersome and time consuming.

And when schedule changes occur, this process is also facilitated.  You can easily request a substitute or even notify a ministry leader of a last minute change which they can instantly see on their phone or at the Church before Mass and thus seek a replacement without having to wait until the last minute.
