About Saint Joseph’s

What Defines Us

As the Catholic Community of Saint Joseph’s, we strive to be loving and nurturing as a family of faith and to create a place where the power of God’s love can truly transform us as individuals and families. Thru faith we gain a unique sense of worth and value and in turn affect others in our community.

Like other Catholic Churches, we hope to live and spread the Word, to celebrate the Eucharist, to pray and to serve one another as we serve the Lord. We find comfort and grounding in the beliefs of the Catholic Church.

If we were to pick one principle to define Saint Joseph’s though, it is that we strive for Humility. Notice we said “strive.” We’re not perfect. We don’t always get it right, but we try, and then try again.

We find comfort and strength in Catholic doctrines and traditions that go back 2000 years, but recognize that we don’t have all the answers. It can be a challenge – how to evolve and bring in new ideas and innovate while maintaining the stability of remaining faithful to the age-old traditions that ground us, and to truths that are immutable.

As Pope Francis said, “I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion,” the pope said. “but I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness.

So with a sense of humility we welcome all – the young and the old; seekers, new and experienced believers and all in between; people of diverse vocations, social strata, and ideas. We are really just like you – imperfect people filled with hopes and fears, joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses.

Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist, there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance.St. Augustine

What is Unique about St. Joseph’s?

We know we’re not the only Church to choose from. To help you determine whether we’re a good fit for your needs, we’d like to tell you about a few things that make us unique.

Creative Character and Big Dreams.

We’re a church that eschews the notion that things should be done just “because that’s always the way we’ve done it.” At the same time, we strive to maintain a secure and stable environment knowing that not all change is good, and too much too fast disrupts the stability we need in our chaotic lives when we come here.

Embracing change but maintaining stability is a tough balancing act that presents challenges and mountains to climb, but that pushes us to live beyond our fears and grow. We are all called by God to face the future and what it brings, and we know that faith makes all things possible.

Opportunities for Personal and Spiritual Growth

We clearly recognize the value of the physical journey we take together as a community to grow in our spiritual lives. Nothing can replace the experience of Mass, the sense of purpose of serving in a ministry, or the fellowship of participating in a group. However, this journey can be augmented by the use of modern technology to enhance our journey of faith individually and collectively.

To do that, we have created an online community that utilizes the latest technology to support our members in their personal and spiritual growth, to equip them for service, and to enable them to form new groups that meet their unique needs. It facilitates communication between members as well as with the leadership team and reinforces our physical, spiritual journeys by helping members stay more connected despite the busy lives we all have.

Our goal is to support ordinary people to do extraordinary things, to create opportunities to be part of something bigger than oneself, and to change the way people think about church and themselves.

Liturgy

Weekend Mass at Saint Joseph’s is celebrated at five times, and each one has a unique character. Partly this is by design to support the diversity within our parish, but it also evolves from the members who regularly attend a specific Mass.  Homilies are intended to challenge as well as inspire us, and an active music program is integral to the celebration of Mass.
