First Eucharist this Sunday: God Sent Jesus to be Our Savior
This Sunday, October 6th, at 9:30 a.m., is our First Eucharist program! Parents (or guardians) – and children – attend the class together in the Parish Hall.
Please bring your child’s curriculum, any homework, and folder to class.
This week our faith focus is God sent Jesus to be our Savior and we celebrate the liturgy and the sacraments, which are the work of Christ. 2nd graders will be in the 2nd Grade class (the class they met in last week) and 3rd grade and up will meet in the classroom directly across from the 2nd Grade class. Your child will receive an outline each week, detailing the chapter that was taught and the homework (homework = faith learning at home) assigned to complete before the next class.
At each class, we will all gather together for prayer: to pray the beautiful prayers of our faith, for each other, and for our church and Pastor, Father Wayne. Prayer is what binds us as a family close to Jesus – and to each other. We will then gather together for a time of community to share in a snack of light breakfast items, timed to model the behavior of not eating an hour before receiving Eucharist at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Before returning to our classrooms, we round out our group time together with a well-produced video relating to the faith topic your child is learning.
And each week, during class, we have a special formation for our Parents, the Parent Forum, in the Parish Hall – across from the bathrooms. This week our faith topic is The Sacraments of Initiation Welcome Us. We are blessed to have Mary Christensen, one of our beloved Sacristans, lead an informative talk supported by her many years of serving here at St. Joseph’s.
Don’t forget our St. Joseph’s Family Prayer Box! We will have pens and paper available for you to write down your intentions and deposit them into our safe and secure Prayer Box. We will pray for these intentions that we hold close to our hearts during our family prayer time.
May God bless all our families!
Shauna and Father Wayne
First Eucharist - Begins Sunday, September 22nd
At the heart of who we are as Catholics is the Eucharist. Signs, symbols, tradition, and anticipation all blend to create a true desire within our children to celebrate the mystery of transubstantiation.
At St. Joseph's, students begin preparing for First Eucharist in 2nd grade or above. Students, along with their parents, attend preparation sessions with Catechists. Discipleship service, a retreat, and participation in the Mass and special Liturgies are also part of the preparation process. The Sacrament is celebrated during the Easter season.
The Sacrament of First Eucharist program meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m., in the Parish Hall, starting Sunday, September 22nd.
