The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

St. Joseph Conference

The Essential Elements of SVdP are Spirituality, Friendship and Service!

The vocation of the Society member’s who are called Vincentians is open to all those who seek to live their faith loving and committing themselves to their neighbor in need. Our Conference at St Joseph has approximately 25 members who are called together to journey together towards holiness.

The Need Line Answering Service (computerized if desired). This service is in conjunction with three other Santa Cruz County Catholic Church Conferences.  This allows us to divide the County map making Aptos, Capitola and Soquel our responsibility.  Volunteers listen to messages from folks requesting our help and return calls to make initial determination.  This one weekday 30 minute endeavor is great for “stay at home” Mom’s or caretakers.

Next we have Home Visits. Volunteers go in pairs to the homes of those first time requesting financial assistance and generally every third visit thereafter.  These visits allow us to serve the poor cheerfully, listening to them and respecting their wishes, helping them to feel and recover their own dignity.  With their permission we always say a prayer together before we leave.  We are always in need of more bilingual volunteers and people familiar or interested in researching the ever changing government resources available for individuals in financial need so we can give helpful advice.  Vincentians endeavor to help the poor to help themselves whenever possible.

Food Pantry is open in the lower parking lot every Wednesday 10am-12pm we serve approximately 100 people each month, they receive bags of canned items and nonperishable items in approximate retail value of $2500.  Fred and Brian, our Pantry Staff will be putting out a bin the 1st Sunday of each month and asking every parishioner to bring ONE item from the following list to help provide food for those in need.
